The fourth volume of ArtHaus' Dvorak Cycle features great performances of the composer's two most popular orchestral works. In the concerto - that Emperor among all cell concertos - soloist Mischa Maisky delivers a deeply impassioned performance and enjoys very solid support from conductor and orchestra - in spite of his gypsy-like appearance. Libor Pesek is a very simpatico and efficient conductor who elicits splendid response from his musicians with a minimum of gesture and outward emotion. He gets the job done even without a Lenny Bernstein-type bear hug. Audio and camera work are exemplary. A gem!
