Nicholas Sheffo
Fulvue Drive-in, May 2012

Finally we have the documentary biography Carlos Kleiber: Traces To Nowhere about the famous, beloved conductor, his life, his triumphs and how his love of the classics kept the arts alive in his lifetime. Director Eric Schulz interviews many friends of his, including some big names in the business, then adds rare and obscure vintage footage to show us who he was and what he did. The resulting portrait is complementary and well rounded, making this worth seeing…Extras include a nicely illustrated booklet on the artist and trailers. © 2012 Fulvue Drive-in Read complete review

Jeffrey Kauffman, March 2012

Carlos Kleiber: Traces to Nowhere is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of ArtHaus Musik…This television outing has a nicely sharp appearance in the contemporary interview segments, with pleasing if not overwhelming fine detail, good contrast, consistent black levels and accurate looking color. Overall this is a decently sharp and clear picture…

The soundtrack here is rather surprisingly fulsome for a stereo track, with especially impressive low end in the orchestral excerpts which are included. Despite the age of some of these recordings…audio quality is rather good, all things considered. The talking heads segments…all sound fine, with crisp and clear audio.

This is a fascinating piece of documentary filmmaking about an equally fascinating subject [Carlos Kleiber]… this release comes Recommended.  2012 Read complete review
