Assisted by a corps de ballet second to none, the Zurich company with the world-renowned Hagen string quartet gives us 90 minutes of pure pleasure. Watching the incredible athleticism of the dancers, in perfect sync with the four players, is soul-stirring and uplifting. A 2012 performance from the Salzburg Festival, there are more magic moments than can be counted.
Arthaus Musik clearly has some top-notch videographers in their stable and we get some of their best efforts here. Ballet is a difficult form to cover, but the cameras understand their subjects and we, lucky viewers, are the beneficiaries.
Stage noise is relatively minimal, unusual for ballet, and the string quartet is most clearly reproduced. A win-win for all involved.
There is much to enjoy and I would encourage viewers who want to see the future of ballet to check this one out. © 2013 Blu-rayDefinition.com Read complete review
