Paul Turok
Turok’s Choice, June 2009

Rossini’s four early, lovely one-act operas (Il signor Bruschino, La cambiale di matrimonio, L’occasione fa il ladro and La scala di seta), have been boxed (2057388, four discs). La scala di seta is the only one that has not been already reviewed in TC. Apart from the remark that Bruschino, although well sung, lacks the musical and visual vigor of a fine performance, the key word for the others, including La scala di seta (with Rossini’s first great overture), is “delightful.” Good sound in DTS Stereo and Dolby Surround.
