Robert Benson, January 2012

Rodrigo’s famous concerto receives a spectacular highly individual interpretation by Cañizares. Sir Simon’s accompaniment could not be bettered, and the oboe solo in the second movement surely has never sounded as luxurious…Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 also is given a superlative performance with the BPO in top form…Excellent video and audio. Highly recommended. © 2012 Read complete review

Lawrence Devoe, December 2011

this concert recording holds up very well under critical scrutiny.

The Rachmaninoff Second Symphony, one of the most romantic symphonies ever penned would have been enough to make this strongly recommended BD. The third movement principal theme is about the most gorgeous melody that I have ever heard. It is lovingly played by the Berliners and, like Godiva chocolate, you just can’t get enough of it… this is still a disc well worth going for. © 2011 Read complete review
