Joseph K. So
La Scena Musicale, November 2012

At the risk of creating hyperbole, there is Pavarotti, and there are the others…Euroarts has released a new German documentary on the man himself. From his early years to his premature death from pancreatic cancer in 2007, everything is told candidly and sensitively throughout the documentary. It features many interviews with his wife Adua Veroni, his childhood friend Luciano Ghelfi, his personal assistant Edwin Tinoco, his colleagues Mirella Freni and José Carreras, his agent Herbert Breslin, the Met general manager Joseph Volpe, orchestra conductor and mentor Leone Magiera and even with the celebrity Bono, who admired the tenor. The film illustrates Pavarotti’s essence, cheerful disposition, generous spirit and love of life (and of food) well, without forgetting his appreciation for feminine beauty. A must-see for all who are intrigued by the charismatic Pavarotti. © 2012 La Scena Musicale Read complete review

Joseph K. So
La Scena Musicale, September 2012

From Pavarotti’s earliest years to his untimely death from pancreatic cancer in September 2007, the documentary traces his life and career with candour and sensitivity. The film captures Pavarotti well, his sunny personality, his generosity of spirit, his zest for life—and food, not to mention his appreciation of feminine beauty. The documentary is gossipy but respectful—there’s no mud slinging. Lamentably short at 58 minutes, the documentary goes by in a flash. This is an absolute must-see for anyone interested in the charismatic Luciano Pavarotti. © 2012 La Scena Musicle Read complete review

Lynn René Bayley
Fanfare, March 2012

One shocking thing about this documentary on one of the most beloved classical performers of the 20th century is that it hasn’t appeared sooner…this film by Esther Schapira is really good.

I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough. This is how an arts documentary should be, all the time. © 2012 Fanfare Read complete review on Fanfare

The WholeNote, February 2012

This excellent biopic strips away the layers of intrigue and drama to provide the viewer a glimpse into the singer’s illustrious life.

The effort to film “just the facts” makes this a moving and thought provoking exercise. © 2012 The WholeNote Read complete review
