Lawrence Hansen
American Record Guide, November 2010

Sound is excellent—firm and detailed with a bit of ambiance. If you really don’t like concerts on TV, just play the audio like a CD. It’ll still be rewarding.

Gramophone, November 2010

…Boulez generates unity and inevitability by knitting Stravinsky’s motifs together nevertheless, injecting the “Jeu des princesses” scherzo with the fast-forward hysteria of cartoon music; Fireworks is raucous, playful, exuberant. As a DVD extra Boulez leads a 50-minute “all you need to know about The Firebird” lecture, pulling the piece apart and showing how Stravinsky makes the orchestra sound like no one else. At the Louvre, even the woman with the enigmatic smile at the back perks up.

Kevin Filipski
Times Square, May 2010

Pierre Boulez: Live from the Louvre (Ideale Audience) is a live performance as remarkable for its location—underneath the pyramid entrance of the Louvre—as for its sensational music-making by Boulez and an orchestra, performing Stravinsky’s ballet score The Firebird (lone extra: Boulez interview about Stravinsky)
