Laurence Vittes
Audiophile Audition, November 2012

Emmanuel Pahud, of course, is the current golden flute, with his elegant phrasing and many-colored tone that flashes like sunlight in the stream. He has an absolute command of the notes he plays, and lays them on with a beguiling blend of modern technique and Baroque performance practice mastery. With Pahud, the trills are particularly thrilling.

Backing him, the original instrument Kammerakademie Potsdam is crisp, bouncy and sumptuous all at the same time (and all musicians who clean up well), and Trevor Pinnock at the keyboard and leading the festivities is his usual delightful self whenever Beatrix Conrad’s lively, absorbing camerawork cuts to him.

…so decadent, every measure drenched in beauty of one kind or another, that I can’t resist. © 2012 Audiophile Audition Read complete review

Kirk McElhearn
MusicWeb International, October 2012

…this concert is tastefully filmed, with the cameras not intrusive, yet showing sufficiently the musicians as they perform.

The overall concert has a tone of fresh air, which the baroque flute often provides. The music is delightfully relaxing yet lively, full of virtuoso passages, designed to show of Pahud’s skills, yet are never just for flash. The Kammerakademie Potsdam, led by Trevor Pinnock from the harpsichord, is a fine ensemble that backs up Pahud perfectly. The small forces here allow the flute to stand out, and let Pahud’s dexterity shine. The C.P.E. Bach A Minor sonata is an impressive work for solo flute.

Both sound and image quality are excellent, offering a pleasant evening’s entertainment. © 2012 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Fulvue Drive-in, August 2012

Emmanuel Pahud plays the flute and conductor Trevor Pinnock plays the harpsichord. It is not a one-note, one-instrument show by any means and gives new nuance and perspective on the flute, as well as music that brings out the best in it. I really liked this one. © 2012 Fulvue Drive-in Read complete review

ClassicalCDReview.com, August 2012

This program filmed at SSanssouci October 16, 2011 is a tribute to Frederick the Great by Emanuel Pahud, principal flute of the Berlin Philharmonic, who has a major career as solo flutist. He is accompanied by Kammerakademie Potsdam directed from the harpsichord by Trevor Pinnock. Pinnock is one of the most respected and recorded early music artists, and if you’d like to see him at this stage of his career, here’s your opportunity. Pahud’s playing is perfect and a pleasure to hear and view. Video quality is outstanding, and audio well captures the performers in a fine hall. © 2012 ClassicalCDReview.com Read complete review
