Christie Grimstad, April 2013

…Daniele Abbado’s Nabucco is personalized by Caroline Lang in this most articulated and dramatically taught production.

Michele Mariotti torques vibrancy via the youthful channel of the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma. Leo Nucci is able to dramatically transform the Babylon King’s personality change with stature and substance. The difficult job in singing the role of Abigaille is assigned to Dimitra Theodossiou whose proficiency of the music and connection with her character is simply grand.

A nicely grounded, subdued palette of gray, beige and black formulates Luigi Perego’s costuming for both the Coro del Teatro Regio di Parma and principals which tends to cross a wide timeline, working beautifully alongside the accentuations of lighting by Valerio Alfier.

The overall expressive qualities can be seen remarkably well through the efforts of video directing by Tiziano Mancini. C Major and Tutto Verdi have an undeniable reason for celebration. Viva Verdi! © 2013 Read complete review

Robert Benson, December 2012

This Nabucco is another in the ambitious Teatro Regio Di Parma Verdi series, and it is a great success. Sets and costumes by Luigi Perego are simple but colorful, and Danielel Abbado’s staging is to the point. Nucci is a commanding presence indeed, and his buxom feuding daughters, Abigaille and Fenena, sung by Dimitri Theodossiou and Anna Martia Chiuri, impress in these very challenging roles. Tenor Bruno Ribeiro gets better as the opera progresses, and visually is excellent. The important role of Zaccaria is magnificently sung by Riccardo Zanellato, at the beginning of what should be an extraordinary career. Conductor Michele Mariotti keeps things moving very nicely, and the important chorus also is first-rate. Video and audio are excellent. This Nabucco is highly recommended! © 2012 Read complete review

Janos Gardonyi
The WholeNote, November 2012

The opera is conducted with excitement and enthusiasm, beautifully pointed, with soaring melodies and upbeat tempi by a young Italian named Michele Mariottiand sung by youthful, strong voices so that even the lowliest chorister could be a soloist at any world stage. In addition there are two veterans in the principal roles. Leo Nucci as Nabucco is easily the world’s top Verdi baritone…who is larger than life, with a voice of immense power and touching lyricism. Dimitra Theodossiou takes one of the most murderous dramatic soprano roles in the entire opera repertoire, that of Abigaille…and simply astounds the audience to a thunderous ovation. A third principal, a stentorian basso with exceptional power even in the deepest registers, is Riccardo Zanellato as Zaccaria, the high priest of Israel. This is a production to cherish. © 2012 The WholeNote Read complete review
