Gramophone, October 2010

The composer’s own recordings, a reference-point for all who came afterwards and superb in their own right.

Geoffrey Norris
The Daily Telegraph (Australia), September 2003

"Two earlier recordings have a great deal more than just historical value...the pianism on both is breathtaking."

Classic FM, January 2000

Pick of 1999

Peter Gutmann
Classical Notes

The Naxos edition is fascinating for the light it sheds on the art of transfers, as it contrasts the work of the two giants in the field. Mark Obert-Thorn provides Naxos with a much warmer acoustic that evokes the composer’s passion, as well as the rich sonic blend of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Neither is ‘correct;’ both enrich our understanding of a complex artist.
