The first of the three commercial recording Horowitz made of the D minor Concerto comes from 1929 (the others were with Fritz Reiner in 1951 and Ormandy in 1978), and for many collectors it is the finest. (Actually, one is tempted to say that of whichever was the last one you have heard.) However, it is still tremendously impressive and sounds better than ever in this new transfer.
"Overall, this Naxos Historical recording is a must for Horowitz fans and anyone interested in the genesis of his fame. Also, Rachmaninov enthusiasts will find the 1930 performance of the 3rd Piano Concerto a treasurable and necessary acquisition."
