Penguin Guide, January 2009

The Busch-Serkin accounts of Op. 12, No. 3 and the Spring Sonata come from the early 1930s, and the Kreutzer was recorded in New York in 1941. These transfers leave no doubt as to the fine musicianship and aristocratic finesse of this playing. Adolf Busch was a Beethovenian of rare quality, and Serkin was at his most responsive and sensitive at this period.

Pablo Galonce

Erik Levi
BBC Music Magazine, January 2002

"Naxos's great violinists series has now extended its area of exploration beyond Heifetz, Kreisler and Menuhin with two issues featuring Adolf Busch and Joseph Szigeti. Both releases enjoy the benefits of Mark Obert-Thorn's wonderfully natural-sounding transfers and afford many delights for the listener. Busch's partnership with Rudolf Serkin in three Beethoven Sonatas, performed according to the informative booklet notes from memory, is electrifying, nowhere more so than in the 1941 'Kreutzer' where the fiery dialogue between the instruments in the outer movements has the kind of adrenaline that is only rarely experienced in the concert hall."

MusicWeb International, November 2001

"The greatest Beethoven violin sonatas performed by arguably the greatest duo partnership of the last century... at Naxos price!"
