Penguin Guide, January 2009

The two Op. 58 Quartets written in 1821 show a new maturity, especially the noble Adagio of the E flat major, which reminds one of Mozart, after a cheerful first movements laced with effective pizzicatos. The light-hearted Scherzo with its Viennese Ländler-influenced Trio has much charm, and the work is capped by a springy closing Rondo. A splendid disc in every way.
