Hi-Fi Choice, February 1991

The charming First and the unfinished Third being beautifully played by the Czech Radio Orchestra under American Stephen Gunzenhauser, it is certainly a bargain at.

WalesOnline, November 1990

" Superbly committed playing and an innate sense of style. These are splendid symphonies-No. 2 is quite well known and receives a bold performance. ... the strength of this orchestra lies in its exciting quality in the fully-scored passages. In No. 1, Gunzenhauser drives the music forcefully through the extensive Allegro of the first movement. The finale of No. 1 benefits from their strong, flexible tone - a real Russian-festival of a piece. ... The recording permits each instrumental section to strike through with forcefully, crisp timpani, clear, well-blended woodwind, and clearly-defined strings.

Fanfare

"His interpretations of the Borodin symphonies are fast, vigorous, and exciting"

Gramophone

"The Slovak performances are alive and vigorous"

Classical Cuts

"superbly committed playing and an innate sense of style"
