On Naxos, Stefan Sanderling (son of Kurt gives nicely turned performance of the first suites, neatly characterized and with much charm and colour The Thisrd and Fourth Suites are slightly less successful. Sanderling shows much delicacy of feeling, both in the opening GigueI of Mozartiana and in the Elégie, the first movement of the Third Suite and it is a pity that one has reservations about the sets of variations which Tchaikovsky uses for his final movement. In Mozartiana Sarderling is very romantic. The masterly Theme Theme and Variations which refuses to take off: Sanderling is that bit too grandiose and measured.
