Penguin Guide, January 2009

Those looking for a bargain will surely not be disappointed with the Russian fiddler, Ilya Kaler, on Naxos. A pupil of Leonid Kogan, his playing is technically very assured, the lyrical bowing vibrant is a Slavic way, and he projects a strong profile. The 1992 Naxos recording is truthful and real.

The Strad

"absolutely impeccable performances of the 24 Caprices"

"Kaler's version can carry a strong recommendation"

Los Angeles Reader (USA)

"The prerequisite of technique-to-burn in this fiendishly difficult music is taken for granted; more important, Kaler brings to these potentially fluffy fireworks a great deal of character"
