Penguin Guide, January 2009

György Pauk’s impressive recording of the remarkable Solo Sonata of 1944 is commanding, and everywhere his pacing seems just right and his playing effortless. In the 44 Duos Pauk, partnered by the Japanese violinist, Kazuki Sawa, offers expertly judged and splendidly characterful accounts of these pieces. The Naxos recording is very good indeed and enhances the attractions of this super-bargain issue.

Tom Godell
American Record Guide, April 2001

"Pauk brings an authentic style and agile fingers to this music. His expressive and declamatory reading accentuates the mystery inherent in the pianissimos and shows off his exceptionally beautiful tone. Good coupling (the 44 Duos) and excellent Naxos price."

BBC Music Magazine, December 1996

"...Gyorgy Pauk diaplays supreme assurance throughout ...the Naxos recording is bright and clear."

Fanfare, June 1996

"Pauk and Sawa are strong contenders in this repertoire, and both the sonata and the duo set would be hard to beat at any price. At Naxos's bargain basement price, therefore, it's no surprise that the disc can be highly recommended."

Classic CD, May 1996

For Naxos the former teacher and pupil relationship of Gyorgy Pauk and Kazuki Sawa makes a stupendous combination... Vital and expansive playing from Pauk and Sawa

Gramophone, May 1996

Pauk and Sawa make for an admirable partnership and Naxos's recordings are entirely satisfactory... I've often said that when it comes to recommending a CD on musical grounds, price is irrelevant. That claim still stands, although I'm happy to confirm the exceedingly low price of their excellent programme.
