The Naxos complete Pulcinella ballet is fresh and alert and with the impact of the crisp, clean ensemble reinforced by full and immediate sound on an apt chamber scale. This was one of the very first recording made (in 1993) by the tenor Ian Bostridge, and the heady beauty of his voice is superbly caught in such vocal numbers as the Serenata. The other soloists are also good. A full text and English translation are given, and it is good. A full text and English translation are given, and it is good to have the far later Danses concertantes (1941-2) as a valuable makeweight, done with equal point and polish. Strongly recommended.
"Even if the performance were less than excellent this newcomer would be welcome. But it is very good indeed... Fiona James, Ian Bostridge and Henry Herford are outstandingly good... What can I say? Another "another Naxos winner"!!"
