Penguin Guide, January 2009

Another collection in the outstanding Naxos series of wind concertos, this purports to include all those for solo recorder, which it doesn’t. However, the performances from Lásszló Kecskeméti of the three works fro the sopranino instrument are dazzling (though not to be played in a row); then follow the two fine works fro treble recorded, the first of which is played by László Czidra with equal skill Kecskeméti then tales over fro the rest of the programme, which ends with the chamber concerto, La Pastorella. This is the highlight of the Collection, one of the composer’s masterpieces, delightful in its range of colour and imaginative echo effects, and indeed it Siciliano slow movement and ingenious fugal finale. Splendid contributions from the players of the Nicolaus Esterházy Sinfonia throughout, and excellent recording.
