Penguin Guide, January 2009

With Colin Currie, the young prize winning percussionist, matching his compatriot predecessor, Evelyn Glennie, in flair and panache, the Naxos version of the brilliant and dramatic percussion concerto, Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, cannot be recommended too highly. Takuo Yuasa is a strong and persuasive conductor, not just in Veni, veni, Emmanuel, but in the earlier work, Tryst, an extended and colourful fantasy in five sections built on a setting of a Scottish song. Recorded in the helpful acoustic of the Ulster Hall, Belfast, the sound is exceptionally full and vivid, matching the excellent playing of the orchestra.

BBC Music Magazine

"a performance to match that of the original soloist....the Ulster Orchestra under Takuo Yuasa provides some justification in a superbly alert, agile and responsive reading: they are truly a revelation"

David Hurwitz

"...a very fine disc, very well performed and recorded."
