The Dixtuor or Decet is one of Enescu’s most glorious scores: its sophisticated counterpoint and idyllic charm are most appealing. The plaintive slow movement is haunting. The Oslo Wind Soloists are artists of quality whose reading challenges the finest at any price. Crisp rhythms, a good sense of line and tonal finesse. These artists recorded this piece on the Victoria label in the early 1990s, but these different and better accounts in every way.
