John Puccio
Sensible Sound, December 2003

"Probably the best thing about this disc is its sound. Not that the music isn't fun, too, coming from the collaborators who brought us My Fair Lady, Camelot, Gigi, Brigadoon, and Paint Your Wagon. You'll find selections from all five musicals here, done in sprightly style, but, more important, you'll find good, pit-orchestra audio.

Richard Hayman conducts with a flourish, as though he's been doing it all his life. Here, he presents three longer medleys - from My Fair Lady, Gigi, and Camelot - and a number of shorter selections from the other musicals mentioned. Few critics would find fault with the music-making, which is big and robust and sparkling.

Nor can one find fault with the sound engineering, which makes Mr. Hayman's orchestra seem like a real pit orchestra accompanying a live stage production. There's depth and breadth and a kind of zest one hardly hears from a more refined symphony orchestra; plus, there's an excellent treble response that responds well to triangles and cymbals, although deep bass is not as prominent."
