ProgSheet, May 2012

Tony Banks is one of my favorite musician/composers on the planet. “Seven” is Banks’ latest and a totally classical themed album. Banks himself only plays piano on a few pieces, the orchestra carrying the rest. So, is it a vanity project of puff pastry pseudo-classical claptrap? Not at all!

“Seven” is a work of stirring beauty. Banks continues to represent utter quality with no commercial concern. This CD is no “classical” treatment of rock pieces. It is a solid disc of strong pieces… At the center of it all is “The Ram,” a piece bursting with rapturous themes, elegance, mystery, delight. For the listener open to orchestral music, “Seven” is heaven for your ears, heart, & soul. © 2012 ProgSheet Read complete review

Ivan March
Gramophone, May 2004

"Banks has a genuine melodic gift... The LPO under Mike Dixon play sympathetically and often ardently, and the woodwind relish Simon HaleÝs many piquant touches of colour."

John Sunier
Audiophile Audition

These are enchanting fantasy pieces to which you can listen and just let your mind go. Their range of emotion and moods is surprisingly wide. They hold more interest than the typical "light music," yet do not require the concentration of, say, a more academic symphonic suite.

David Hurwitz

"There's absolutely no reason why pop music writers should not attempt to compose large-scale orchestral works, and I applaud Tony Banks for making the effort...The performance as such sounds perfectly fine and is very well recorded; the London Philharmonic does a thoroughly creditable job under Mike Dixon. I don't think Naxos was wrong to go for this project; Banks has a following and his fans may enjoy it."

"Fans of Tony Banks will be queuing to buy the album and it has 'chill out' possibilities for the post-party coterie."
