The First Suite from the Ballet, Tom inhabits much the same musical world as Aaron Copland. The Eight Symphony makes use of serial technique but will still present few problems to those familiar with Diamond’s earlier music, for it remains lyrical and though-provoking. It culminates in a double fugue of considerable ingenuity. This Sacred Ground is a short setting for soloist, choirs and orchestra of the Gettysburg Address, and it may not travel so well. Committed performances and excellent, natural, recorded sound.
