An impressive pianist, Lukas Foss was also a prolific composer, and the Inventions and Grotesque Dance were written when he was 16. This disc collects all his piano music from his teens through to Solo (1981) and For Lenny (1987). They are inventive and at times delightful pieces. Anyone who feels at home in the musical worlds of Barber and Copland will find this highly congenial. It would be good to have his rather Stravinskian but highly stimulating Second Piano Concerto back in circulation. Highly recommended.
