Paul Turok
Turok’s Choice, May 2010

Niels Gade, Danish composer, friend of Mendelssohn and Schumann, composed three violin sonatas, very well played by violinist Hasse Borup and Heather Conner (8.570524). Gade is more successful in his earliest sonata, Op.6, which has Mendelssohnian filigree and pleasant materials than in the later ones which share Schumann’s seriousness without his genius.

Guy Rickards
Gramophone, May 2010

Three fine Danish violin sonatas in beautifully shaped performances…Impeccably prepared.

Edward Reichel
Deseret News, March 2010

Gade’s music is wonderfully lyrical and fluid…

This is an exceptional recording and an excellent introduction to Gade’s music.

Julian Haylock
Classic FM, March 2010

Borup and Conner capture the gentle whimsy and charm of much of this music to captivating effect.
