David Hurwitz, September 2013

I nemici generosi features an attractive clarinet solo, here very well played by Denitsa Laffchiev…

Each disc in this series has featured different performers, but it’s probably fair to say that this release is the best to date. The Sinfonia Finlandia plays with consistent alertness and transparency. The engineering is excellent. © 2013 Read complete review

WFMT (Chicago), September 2013

The most famous and popular Italian opera composer of the second half of the 18th century, Domenico Cimarosa composed more than 65 operas which were performed all over Europe, as well as a significant body of instrumental music and works for the church. Cimarosa’s overtures are remarkable for their melodic invention, assured handling of the orchestra and sheer vitality. © 2013 WFMT (Chicago)

The Jyväskylä Sinfonia, from Central Finland, has built a sizable catalogue of recordings on the Naxos label, most recently this collection of Domenico Cimarosa’s popular opera overtures. Cimarosa is sometimes regarded as a footnote among 18th-century composers. But while he never achieved the fame of his contemporary, Mozart, his works are charming examples of the period’s style, as well as a precursor of Rossini’s later innovations. This recording illustrates Cimarosa’s melodic invention and rhythmic vitality in overtures to nine of his 65 operas, including one of his most popular: I due baroni di Roccazzura. © 2013 WQXR (New York)
