It’s really something of a miracle when you jump into an opera recording at a price below FIM100, – and you cannot find anything to complain about! On the contrary; all the main singers are at an artistic level that makes me think that this probably is one of the best AIDA recordings ever. Maria Dragoni, the soprano who won the Callas competition in 1983 and whose voice comes so close to the original (Callas) that it almost hurts, gives a remarkable performance. And Kristjan Johnnson from Island (he has studied in Italy) as Radamesian is surprisingly good.
"Thanks to the also very properly cast minor roles, one can experience an espressivo vocal feast, representing a revival of the old spirit of the Italian Stage tradition, under the circumspect, effervescent conductorship of Rico Saccani"
"Maria Dragoni has a fine lyrico soprano distinguished by her ability to float pianissimo high notes ... Barbara Dever's lustrous lyric mezzo is distinguished by technical control...The sound is first rate"
