Kenny Weir
Sunday Herald Sun (Australia), January 2002

"TENOR saxophonist Gordon Brisker recorded the first album released on Naxos Jazz before journeying to live and work in Australia for several years. His return to the US coincides with his second release for the label, and a very different record it is.

While he retains the services of trumpeter Tim Hagans from the 1996 outing, The Gift, the new album's flavour is dictated by the enlistment of a fiery rhythm team, drummer Billy Hart and bassist Anthony Cox. Pianist Mike Nock joins the lineup, and contributes the opening tune The Open Path, on an album of challenging and often bustling and beautiful compositions. This is smart music by terrific artists."

D. Oscar Groomes
O’s Place Jazz Magazine

"The moods are blue and the rhythms subtle but strong as a foundation for exciting improvisation from all members."
