The Gloria Patri…is done at break-neck speed and then some…it’s sung with remarkable precision and gusto by the Bavarian Radio Choir. And it’s not all flash; the duet in the penultimate movement is especially touching, with Christina Landshamer’s soprano soaring ethereally over Diana Haller’s lovely mezzo.
There is the feeling of youth about these two performances. Dijkstra is obviously a very able director who has an energetic, bracing sense of the music. The soloists…fulfill their assignments quite comfortably. The orchestra is a noteworthy period-instrument ensemble that pitches in earnestly. Above all, it is the chorus that has impressed me…they are well disciplined but also full of a lusty enthusiasm that makes me wish I could have been singing among them for the sheer joy of it.
