Hank Zauderer
My Classical Notes, July 2012

The New York Philharmonic gave “A Concert for New York” to mark the tenth anniversary of the events of 9/11.

This concert was described as an unforgettable event, a “consistently impressive” performance with “gripping playing”, “magnificent” soloists and an “excellent” chorus…

The concert starts with a few words by Alan Gilbert. The performance itself is magnificent and very moving. The audience response at the end is overwhelming in a spontaneous way.

This particular performance…evoked strong emotions of a time in American history we will never forget. © 2012 My Classical Notes Read complete review

CONCERT FOR NEW YORK (A) - MAHLER, G.: Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” (Gilbert) (NTSC) ACC-20241
CONCERT FOR NEW YORK (A) - MAHLER, G.: Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” (Gilbert) (Blu-ray, Full-HD) ACC-10241

Michelle DeYoung’s lustrous Wagnerian instrument makes an undoubted impact in the ‘Urlicht’…Gilbert follows that with a finale of extreme contrasts and genuine passion. No one is likely to feel short-changed by the time we reach the ecstatic close. The band itself contributes a certain pathos and a weight of tone that Chailly cannot muster in Leipzig…Dorothea Röschmann’s heartfelt contribution is another definite plus…The chorus…is determined to give of its best. © 2012 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone website

Anne Shelley
Music Media Monthly, January 2012

This is a captivating and emotional performance of Mahler’s mammoth “Resurrection” Symphony…Whether stately, furious, delicate, mysterious, or mad, Gilbert plays whatever character is required of him with confidence and grace. The ensembles, too, have lots of bite and lots of tenderness. The group manages to make the performance intensely personal, and by the end, I felt like a bonafide New Yorker. Recommended. © 2012 Music Media Monthly Read complete review

Robert Benson, December 2011

Gilbert continues to impress, and this is a dedicated performance by all concerned. …it was a thrilling memorable concert in many ways and doubtless will attract many collectors. © 2011 Read complete review
