Leslie Wright
MusicWeb International, December 2012

A performance of Gubaidulina’s Second Violin Concerto by Vadim Gluzman at least the equal of Mutter’s premiere recording and one that easily demonstrates the work’s greatness among contemporary works in the genre. Along with this is the premiere recording of the composer’s terrific new percussion concerto. © 2012 MusicWeb International

Gramophone, May 2012

Sofia Gubaidulina’s music…is now well represented on CD…these are attractive pieces, in the obvious sense of beguiling the ear but also for their capacity to hold the attention and draw the listener into her inventive world. The Lyre of Orpheus…vividly played by one of her principal champions, Gidon Kremer, derives from an acoustic phenomenon lucidly explained in her booklet-note. In tempus praesens is a violin concerto, with as its creative starting point…holding its considerable interest by a skilful and dramatic use of certain repeated intervals. It is also a virtuoso piece, to which Vadim Gluzman responds with the enthusiasm the music invites.

Glorious Percussion includes substantial improvisations from an array of percussion instruments…These are extraordinary works from an extraordinary and very compelling musical personality. © 2012 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone
