John Quinn
MusicWeb International, April 2013

I enjoyed all these performances. The standard of playing and singing—both solo and choral—is excellent and Hermann Max seems to direct proceedings with great understanding and no little flair. The sound is good throughout though I believe three different recording venues were used and the sound on the Motets disc is evidently derived from a quite resonant church acoustic, which suits the music rather well. © 2013 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Rick Anderson
Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist, September 2011

Johann Ludwig…work deserves more attention than it has gotten, and this nicely-priced three-disc set brings together some of his more attractive vocal works: an ambitious three-part funeral service, a set of eight motets, three sacred cantatas, and a Mass setting. The performances by the Rheinische Kantorei and Das Kleine Konzert (recorded between 1993 and 2002 and originally issued separately) are excellent.
