Robert Schumann is also a bicentennial man this year, and again while not hot off the press, new to me was one CD that is well worth giving (or having!): Piano Music of Robert Schumann, with Antonin Kubalek, on the Dorian label. The two major works are the seminal “Carnaval,” Op. 9 and the ever-celebrated “Kinderscenen,” Op. 15. But what sets the disc apart are the two infrequently heard late works, “Three Fantasy Pieces,” Op. 111, and the “Songs of Dawn,” Op. 133.
