Stephen Smoliar
Examiner.com, June 2013

…all three quartets have no shortage of charm, nor to they lay that charm on so thick as to suggest that charm is all that matters.

As a result Newton Classics deserves a gracious nod for taking the trouble to reissue the recording that the Guarneri Quartet made of Arriaga’s three quartets…The Guarneri approaches these quartets as a latter-day reflection of Mozart’s practices; and that approach serves the listener well.

This is music that does not deserve to be neglected, and Newton Classics has done well to keep it within our “field of view.” © 2013 Examiner.com Read complete review

Carl Bauman
American Record Guide, November 2011

All three quartets are substantial…a musical delight. …this by the Guarneri Quartet is the finest I have heard. The recording may be 16 years old, but it is also the best sounding one.
