Don O’Connor
American Record Guide, July 2012

The performances of both works are elegant, yet powerful. Busoni always wanted his music to combine German depth with Italian transparency, and the playing here seems to do just that. Fontanella plays with a rich, nutty tone, especially in 1:II, which eloquently explores the violin’s lower register. Salinaro’s pianism complements this with good interaction and dynamic control—no mean feat in a work that constantly divides, then blends its parts with great subtlety. A typical example is the 12th variation in 2:III, a complex fugue, which the duo builds to a majestic peak, with total artistic control along its entire ascent. © 2012 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide
