Giv Cornfield, Ph.D
July 2007

This is a very fine performance, which admirers of Sergiu Celedibache would probably want to own. But it has so many drawbacks that it's impossible to recommend on any other grounds. Alright, it's black and white, not a serious drawback. But the film is grainy, and so is the sound, and monaural, even! For a radio station to still be recording a symphony concert monaurally in 1969 is truly amazing! I've worked with RAI tapes of some 70 operas from their archives, with performances by a legion of operatic legends, all suffering from technically poor quality mono recordings. At the claimed duration of 58 minutes (of which about 5 are of applause, etc. but not of music), this one is no bargain, either.
