American Record Guide, May 2012

MAHLER, G.: Lied von der Erde (Das) (J. Henschel, Kunde, Houston Symphony, Graf) 8.572498
MAHLER, G.: Lied von der Erde (Das) (arr. H. Albrecht for chamber orchestra) (Rubens, Morloc, Schafer, Eiche, Albrecht) OC792

The Oehms is the first recording of a new chamber orchestra version of Das Lied by conductor Hansjoerg Albrecht. Albrecht did a fine job of reducing the orchestra while retaining the basic overall sound of the piece…he wisely matched his interpretation to his orchestra. The overall result is captivating and more charming than sad, though baritone Markus Eiche does capture the ambience of farewell in the final song. The orchestra is excellent, as is the sound. © 2012 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide online

Christopher Abbot
Fanfare, March 2012

this new recording include the augmented orchestra, which provides the salutary effect of more closely approximating Mahler’s own, rendering a truer chamber-orchestra sound. The audio production is closely miked, providing plenty of power and definition for both instrumentalists and vocalists…this disc is definitely worth exploring. © 2012 Fanfare Read complete review on Fanfare
