Steve Arloff
MusicWeb International, July 2013

The Hyperion Ensemble…are clearly committed performers of this work and have done Schulhoff good service here.

The performance [of the Metamorphosen] is sumptuous but with Strauss’s uncanny ability to write fabulous melodies that could hardly be otherwise.

This disc presents two very different reactions to the experience of war…but both equally effective and affecting. © 2013 MusicWeb International Read complete review

American Record Guide, September 2012

The Hyperion Ensemble’s performance is stunning. Every bit of the despair and fear that gripped Schulhoff’s throat seems on display here. This is a very difficult work, and their playing sounds impeccable. I’ve not heard any other recording of the Sextet, but I can’t imagine one more stark, dark, and eerie than this one. © 2012 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide
