Nashville Symphony Orchestra
The Nashville Symphony is widely regarded as “the cornerstone of the performing arts” in Middle Tennessee. Under the direction of Music Director Kenneth Schermerhorn for nearly twenty years and presenting more than two hundred performances annually, the Symphony offers local audiences a range of Classical, Pops, Pepsi Children’s, and Summer series concerts, as well as a variety of special events at venues throughout Nashville. A true cultural ambassador for the citizens of Nashville, the Nashville Symphony also shares its artistry with national and international audiences through critically acclaimed recordings on the Naxos American Classics series, as well as its highly successful East Coast Tour and Carnegie Hall debut in 2000, which
The New York Times declared “youthful and fresh...a knockout.” The Nashville Symphony is gaining increased national attention on TV and public radio and is giving a strong new dimension to Nashville’s reputation as Music City, USA. During the first half of 2002, the Nashville Symphony recorded for Naxos a CD featuring works by American music icon Amy Beach, including the composer’s
Symphony No. 2 (Gaelic) and her
Piano Concerto with vanguard pianist Alan Feinberg. The Symphony has recorded an all-Hanson CD
(Naxos 8.559072) and an all-Ives CD
(Naxos 8.559076) for Naxos, both of which have received rave reviews from such prestigious publications as
Gramophone,
Absolute Sound,
Stereophile,
Billboard, and
The Houston Chronicle. In addition, ClassicsToday.com gave both CDs a perfect 10/10 rating. Amazon.com selected the Ives CD as one of its top 10 recordings of 2000.
In September of 2002, the Nashville Symphony released the
Symphonic Poems of George Whitefield Chadwick
(Naxos 8.559117).
