- First performance at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, London, on 12th January 1737.
Handel’s Arminio deals with the German hero Hermann or Arminius, who defeated the Roman legions under their general Varro, events recounted in the Annales of Tacitus. The opera won no very great success, but enjoyed the support and attendance of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
