The premiere in the Teatro Della Canobbiana in Milan on 12 May 1832 was an unqualified success, which resulted in a series of 32 sold-out houses for the composer.

The Arena Sferisterio is the dazzling backdrop for the 'Macerata Opera Festival'. The jewel in the crown at the Macerata Opera Festival in 2002 was Saverio Marconi's production of Elixir of love (L'Elisir d'Amore).

A capacity audience of 5000 gives this stunning performance and electric atmosphere.

The wonderful cast was lead by a young Valeria Esposito who played Adina. Aquiles Machado is stunning as Nemorino. Other notables are Enrico Marrucci as Belcore and Roberta Canzian as Giannetta.
