The Hungarian Nicolaus Esterházy Sinfonia was formed in 1992 from members of the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, initially as a recording orchestra for Naxos. The Sinfonia ranges in size from a baroque string orchestra to an ensemble suitable for Haydn or Mozart, or, augmented, for performances of Beethoven. Founded in 1548, the Staatskapelle Dresden is one of the world’s oldest and highest ranked orchestras. The orchestra is the musical body of the Staatsoper Dresden, and is based on the Semperoper.
