This month we mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the highly individual French composer, Erik Satie, on 17 May, 1866. As eccentric in his way of life as in his music, Satie exercised considerable influence over some of his more distinguished contemporaries, including Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc. His stage works included collaborations with Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso, although it is principally his piano pieces that have won enduring popularity.

“The recording is magnificent...
highly recommended.”
“These are fresh and unbuttoned performances ... and beautifully recorded ... I would recommend this excellent disc to anyone looking for an introduction to lesser-known Satie.”
American Record Guide
“The collection was compiled from five separate volumes of Satie’s piano music on Naxos … Klára Körmendi … demonstrates a really fine grasp of Satie’s music … [and] does a terrific job on the wide variety of Satie here—from the serious compositions to the wild music hall ditties.”

Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, Kaltenbach

“...what makes this collection so enterprising is that it features Satie's hugely influential score to the Cocteau/Picasso/Massin ballet "Parade," along with the pop-inflected score to the Dadaist ballet "Relâche" and the dance piece "Mercure". The music is beguiling and bumptious by turns, its simplicity disguising revolutionary qualities. The Nancy orchestra plays this sad circus music as to the manner born, and the sound and presentation are solid. Another Naxos winner.”
