Klassik award, classic talent
September 16, 2014
Naxos artist Tianwa Yang was recently recognised by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie as one of the outstanding rising stars on the world’s classical music scene. The Chinese virtuoso violinist received one of the four 2014 ECHO Klassik Nachwuchskünstler des Jahres awards, which recognise promising artists of the new generation. The jury cited her Naxos recording of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concertos, released in February last year, as the reason for their decision. The jurors make their choices based on artistic quality as well as popular success. The award of the ECHO Klassik therefore not only reflects the opinion of critics but also the appreciation of music consumers.
Previous recipients include conductors Vasily Petrenko, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Gustavo Dudamel, and Daniel Harding; string players Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Vilde Frang, Daniel Hope, Lisa Batiashvili, Arabella Steinbacher, Hilary Hahn and Sarah Chang; plus pianist Yuja Wang who, like Tianwa Yang, hails from Beijing and is the only other Chinese artist to have won the Nachwuchskünstler des Jahres Award.
