Naxos Works Database. A new subscription service from the Naxos Music Group.
July 2, 2016
The very latest addition to the Naxos suite of online subscription libraries is Naxos Works Database. This resource provides all the important information needed by conductors, students, teachers, artists and arts organisations for their programme-planning, with instrumentation, duration, year of composition, composer biographies, introductions, and much more, all instantly accessible.
Naxos Works Database is now well under way in its mission to create an inexhaustible supply of consolidated information about works that artists can draw on for a range of supportive guidelines—from inspiration in the selection of new repertoire, to making judicious compilations from familiar works.
With over 70,000 compositions already logged in the database, early response to the innovative project has been very positive, including an endorsement from the Music Library Association of the USA. Titled “Naxos Works: A Treat”, Lindy Smith (reference archivist, Bowling Green State University Music Library and Sound Recordings Archives) gives an overview of how the new service works, concluding: “Naxos Works Database is a valuable reference tool for librarians, performers, conductors, and musicologists and I look forward to watching its continued growth.”
