Gramophone Classical Music Awards: Hong Kong Philharmonic named Orchestra of the Year
October 17, 2019
The winners of Gramophone’s 2019 Classical Music Special Awards were announced at a ceremony in London’s Grand Connaught Rooms on Wednesday 16 October. We are delighted to report that the Hong Kong Philharmonic was named Orchestra of the Year.
The Hong Kong Philharmonic is represented by numerous recordings in the Naxos and Marco Polo catalogues, most recently receiving international praise for its performance of Wagner’s Ring cycle (8.501403). The recording features a cast of outstanding singers under the direction of Jaap van Zweden, the orchestra’s music director.
In an earlier announcement, the Gramophone Award for Best Contemporary Recording went to Opus Arte, one of Naxos’ affiliated labels, for their audiovisual release of Brett Dean’s opera Hamlet (OA1254D).
Naxos congratulates everyone involved in the production of these fine recordings.
