This month, the Forde Ensemble from Britain recorded two unusual and virtuosic Double Quartets for strings by Louis Spohr (1784-1859). This latest recording adds significantly to Louis Spohr's discography on Naxos since each of the composer's four Double Quartets has been recorded only once before.
The ensemble is formed by players who hold some of the top orchestral positions in the UK and work together as chamber musicians in The Forde Ensemble. The sessions took place on 15 and 16 January 2008 at St. Mark's Church, Purley in London, UK. John Taylor was the producer engineer. The ensemble will complete the set of Double Quartets when they meet again to record the Nos. 3 and 4 in May 2008.
