Cannes Classical Awards:  Six Nominations for Naxos

Naxos earned a stunning six nominations for the 2004 Cannes Classical Awards, plus a nomination for sister label Marco Polo.  The nominations reflected the diversity and depth of the Naxos Trabaci:Keyboard Music, Book II catalogue, with highlighted recordings including vocal, choral, chamber, solo, and orchestral works.  Several world premiere recordings were recognised, including Book II of Trabaci's keyboard music, chamber works by contemporary composer Richard Dubugnon, and works by Tveitt and Braga Santos.

Several other labels distributed by Naxos in selected markets also won acclaim; DVD labels Arthaus, BBC/Opus Arte, and TDK dominated their categories for a total of eight nominations, and industry stalwarts BIS and Hyperion had nominated titles in two categories each.  CPO and dapaco were included in the honours along with a Scarlatti title from Naive's Opus 111 label and a disc from countertenor Matthew White on the Canadian Analekta label.

The winners of the 2004 Cannes Classical Awards will be announced in January at the Midem international music conference.  The awards were created ten years ago by leading music magazines in several countries to establish a truly international award for the best in classical music.
