CECIL BURLEIGH (1885 - 1980)
The American composer and violinist Cecil Burleigh studied in Berlin, returning
home for further study and a career as a soloist. He later studied with Ernest
Bloch and Leopold Auer, before joining the teaching staff of the University
of Wisconsin. As a composer he has been largely neglected, but his compositions
include a number of works for the violin, reflecting some American musical preoccupations
of the time.
